Transforming Salt Lake Park While Creating Opportunity

SLA Inc. Awarded $1.5 Million to Transform Salt Lake Park and Train 30 Local Residents

Huntington Park, CA

SLA Inc. is proud to announce that it will train 30 local residents with barriers to employment while leading a $1,500,000 transformation of Salt Lake Park through the Salt Lake Park Regional Greenway and Accessibility Project.

This investment brings together workforce development and environmental improvement to create real, lasting change in the community.

A Project Focused on People and Place

This project is designed to deliver environmental improvements and workforce opportunities at the same time.

Key project features include:

• A new 1 mile greenway trail that connects the park and improves access
• Over 150 new trees planted throughout the site to create shade and reduce heat
• Native landscaping that supports long term sustainability
• Improved open space for families and community use

The project will transform Salt Lake Park into a greener, safer, and more welcoming space for the community.

Workforce Training and Opportunity

A core part of this project is workforce development.

SLA Inc. will train 30 local residents with barriers to employment through a hands on program that includes:

• Urban forestry and tree planting
• Irrigation and landscape installation
• Grading and site preparation
• Real work experience on an active project

Participants will gain real skills, build confidence, and access long term career opportunities in landscaping and construction.

Designed for Long Term Impact

The project includes a diverse mix of climate appropriate trees such as Coast Live Oak, Western Sycamore, and Desert Willow, along with native plants like California Sage and Buckwheat.

The design also focuses on:

• Maintaining natural drainage
• Using permeable materials like decomposed granite
• Creating safe and accessible pathways throughout the park

These improvements will support long term environmental and community benefits.

A Major Investment in the Community

This project is funded through the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District, supporting parks and green space in communities that need it most.

This project shows what is possible when we invest in both people and place. SLA Inc. is proud to lead this work.
